Rapeseed oil is an edible vegetable oil obtained from rapeseed varieties with a low erucic acid content. It is an oil rich in omega 6 fatty acids, vitamin E and potassium. Its saturated fatty acid content is the lowest among edible oils. Oil was already used around 1200 for street lighting in northern European countries, while its food use developed in the mid-nineteenth century.
